As head of Citizen
Action's national office from 1986 to 1993, he was responsible for overall
public policy development, legislative and electoral strategy, and media and
public relations for the three-million-member consumer organization. He is
recognized as one of the nation's leading consumer advocates, and he works
closely with a variety of public interest groups, nationally and throughout the
country. National Journal profiled Robert M. Brandon as a person who
"has spent his career fighting Goliaths. He bested Big Oil over the oil
depletion allowance, beat corporate America on tax reform and battled the
utility industry over electric rates. Mr. Brandon was a Democratic National Committee consultant
and advisor to the White House on health care strategy in 1994-1995. He has been a Senior Consultant for Health Care for America
Now! from 2008 to 2010, and currently serves as a consultant for the National
Association of Community Health Centers. Currently, he chairs the State-wide Health Coordinating
Council, the federally mandated planning agency for the District of Columbia. He is also coordinator of Americans for Responsible Taxes, a
national coalition working to end the Bush tax cuts for the wealthy. Since 2006, he has coordinated The Campaign for College Affordability,
a coalition focused on reforming federal student loans, increasing Pell Grant
funding and boosting investment in community colleges and employment training
programs. He has served as the Executive Director of the Citizen/
Labor Energy Coalition, director of the Tax Reform Research Group, and an
adjunct lecturer in law at the George Washington University Law School. He has
written and testified extensively, and appeared on numerous national TV and
radio shows. He co-founded and is Executive Director of a local
non-profit, A Greater Washington, that
runs Fields of Dreams, an afterschool program operating in eight DC public
schools in Ward 7 & 8. He is currently elected member of the Democratic State Committee. Senior Associate Nancy J. MacWood is an attorney with more than twenty years' experience in legislative policy, organizational development and management, and special fundraising projects. Her areas of expertise as legislative staff in the U.S. Senate included health, welfare, women's, labor and Native American issues, as well as alcoholism and drug abuse. In addition to her Congressional experience, she served as a Law Clerk in the Federal Circuit Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia. She also has worked for the American Bar Association, and directed the ABA's Commission on Youth Alcoholism and Drug Abuse. She is a local elected official and Chair of Advisory Neighborhood Commission 3C in Washington, D.C. She is involved in local zoning, housing, historic preservation and public safety regulation. She is a graduate of Manhattanville College and holds a J.D. from Antioch School of Law. Jesse Fowler is the Program Director for A Greater Washington Fields of Dreams (FoD). FoD is an after school program (and summer camp), focused on homework completion, academic enrichment, nutrition awareness, character education, and baseball instruction. The program serves elementary and middle school students, in Wards 6, 7, & 8 of Washington, D.C. Jesse has been involved in education, from teaching to program management to volunteering, for eleven years. She has a master’s degree in education (curriculum & instruction), also specializing in conflict resolution and peaceable schools. She is active in organizations that promote girls participation in sports, such as Girls on the Run and the Kate Risley Foundation. Erica Evans is a Program Assistant for Brandon and Associates. A Baltimore native, Erica earned her Bachelor's degree in Political Communication from the George Washington University, and went on to receive a Master's Degree in Political Management from the same institution. Erica has formerly worked in the Communications and Engagement arms of NPR and Amnesty International and has volunteered time on several state-wide political campaigns. At Robert M. Brandon and Associates she assists with all active programs and campaigns on communications, policy and administrative levels, with a special focus on the Campaign for College Affordability. |
